So, a chiropody program was set up (now it is at the Michener Institute in Toronto) to train chiropodists. In order to force-feed the Chiropody Model in Ontario, the Chiropody Act, 1991 brought forward by the NDP government included a provision that no new podiatrists could be registered to practice in Ontario after July, 1993. This we commonly refer to as a "podiatry cap". Podiatry is the only healthcare profession in Ontario that has such a prohibition.
