The NDP, as you have seen contributed to the Bill Davis/Dennis Timberall notion that producing chiropodists in Ontario and preventing podiatrists from entering the province would somehow be a good thing. As predicted, but ignored by the politicians of the day, the chiropody model has become a failed model and has never really taken hold in Ontario. Chiropodists alone have not been able to meet the growing demand for foot care services in the healthcare delivery paradigm which has changed (surprise, surprise!) since the 1980's. Chiropody was originally intended to be delivered in hospitals. Many clinics were opened, and funded by government (our) money. Most have closed or downsized their chiropody clinics. But there are other reasons why the foot care needs of Ontarians aren't being met.
...Hmmm.
